How could a green team be used at WFMS? What are some recommendations that could be made at our school? Were any of the statistics at the beginning of this video alarming to you? Please make comments on the changes in our environment.
Recycling isn't that hard to do and it would save money too, so why don't we recycle more? I personally beleive it's because we're lazy (I'm not excluding myself from the lazy catagory, but I recycle everything I can!) If people would stick to recycling papers instead of wadding them up and throwing them at each other, or if teachers would let us recycle our papers after they've been graded, that alone would make a huge difference! I already knew most of those statistics, and of course I'm alarmed! (If you haven't noticed, I'm big on saving the planet and the animals, in other words an enviromentalist. I'm proud of it too!) There are thousands of changes happening because of the Global Warming and green-house effects that the Co2 causes. One of the most drastic however (besides the animals and the effects its having on them) is all of the hurricanes! The recent hurricanes have been worse and worse and have been killing more and more people! All this is happening because of the continued carelessness of past generations, our generation can make a difference if we try. A prime example is the 70's-80's. Those decades used more hairspray than any other! (ok, for those of you that don't understand why I'm making a fuss over hairspray. Hairspray has been depleting our ozone layer. The ozone layer isn't justt thinner now, there are actually holes in it! The ozone layer helps control the green-house effect gasses, but its going away due to air pollution.) Deforestation has had a big effect on the inviroment as well, trees absorb Co2 and release oxygen.
The green team could be used at WFMS by recycling. We could recycle cans, and paper. Some recommendations that could be made at our school are have people recycle things and bring them to school to save the world. Global warming alarmed me. The fire and the pollution in the video also alarmed me. If people would stop littering that would change the world. I think that every student at WFMS should be a member of a green team. Everything that can be recycled should be recycled, and everything that could be replaced with something more energy efficient should be! Things such as light bulbs, cleaning products that the custodians use, refridgerators and dishwashers in the cafeteria, air conditioners, and practically everything that we use can be replaced with a more energy efficient version. Thousands of products are available that are "green" and environmentally friendly that work just as well. They may seem a little more expensive to buy, but they are worth it to save our planet! Everyone of the statistics were very alarming to me. Some in particular were that there are going to be more wildfires and droughts, stronger storms and hurricanes and by far the most alarming is that by 2050 the oceans will be ice free and more than a million species will be extinct, including the polar bear! Some people don't realize, or don't care that once these things are gone, they are gone forever! We are already seeing these things happening. We have horrible storms and more hurricanes than ever and they are much more distructive. In some places, the people and the land will never recover and it will only get worse. Also, as the glaciers melt, the water level rises eventually eroding beach areas. Where there are prolonged droughts, farmers can't grow crops or livestock. Some of the damage that we have done is beyond repair, but if we stop now, we may be able to prevent the situation from getting worse. It takes a little bit of effort from everyone, and we could all make such a big difference. If each person would recycle one thing, or would use a product that didn't hurt the environment, we could all save our planet together. Megan DeJong 4th Period

I believe a green team would be very beneficial to out school. WFMS has gone through so much paper this year, that it is hard to believe! I know our school is relatively new, but it should be altered to help our environment and society. Everyone should recycle all things that can possibly be recycled. Also, the electronic aspects should be changed to help out, too.
Yes, I was very alarmed at these statistics. I have heard quite a few before but I never really listened. Now I am listening, and I think it is time we changed. Everyone needs to prepare for what is happening and there is no better time to start than now. Global Warming is rapidly happening and it needs to be helped and prevented. Every little thing can increase what is happening. Hairspray can wipe out the ozone just as easily as a bunch of gas from trucks and pollution. The world is changing and its going fast. We need to take back control.

A green team could definitel be used in West Fairmont Middle School. Today, I walked by three trash cans full of paper and platic silverware and napkins that have been used at breakfast. I thought to myself how much global warming we could stop from happening if our school recycled all of that stuff. Our school could use a lot of changes to help reduce global warming and increase recycling. A lot of the statistics were surprising and astonishing to me. I thought about how much energy we waste by leaving lights on in the house and running water while we brush our teeth. I also thought about how many napkins were used every day in my community and I was trying to think of a way to resolce these conflicts. The negative changes in our environment have been crucial and ridiculing to human beings, plants, and definitely all animal species. It is horrible how everything is warming up in the world because people taking extra napkins and drinking too much soda and just throwing away these items without even thinking of recycling them. It's ridiculous!!!

Or we can to promote cycling, i know that although the bicycle did not cars convenient, but it can save a lot of oil, reduce air pollution, and also to lose weight and exercise. We will have something to sell plastic bags, we can collect them the next time to buy things when there is no need to get a new plastic that would reduce a lot of white pollution.

I think that we could recycle more at school. There could be someone standing at the bins to help people at lunch time. We could also do more assignments online, so that we would save paper. I think that one of the statistics that was alarming was that storms are getting so much stronger than they have ever been. These storms are really dangerous. It was also shocking that Americans were the worst at wasting and not recycling.
I don’t think that anyone really thinks about the consequences of not taking care of the earth. We just go about our business. We don’t recycle in my family, but maybe we should. I guess if everyone did a little bit more, the earth would be a better place to live. We have to think of our friends and families in the future.

The video said that by recycling just one plastic bottle saves enough energy to power a 60 watt light bulb for six hours. WFMS, sometimes, recycles. Last year they started a program that had to do with recycling old papers that you weren’t going to use. They continued that throughout a little bit of this year but as far as I know I haven’t seen anyone picking up the recycling bens in each of the classrooms. Some recommendations that could be made at our school is that we could defiantly recycle more, and change the light bulbs to make the school more energy efficient. Yes and no. Yes, because if we don’t start to do some thing to help our planet we could face terrible things to animals like to polar bears in this video.
