Tsunami

What is the weather event that you most fear? Have you ever been caught in a bad storm of some sort? Where? When? How can the world be better prepared for a disaster like the tsunami that occurred in 2004? What kind of effect would a disaster of this magnitude have on the world?

I most fear a flood because it's the most likely thing to happen in West Virginia. I have been in a tornado in Tennessee in 2008. They could get better equipment and have people to help evacuate faster. Everyone could get affected by this kind of disaster.

The weather event that I most fear would be a flood because of the destruction. Yes I have been caught in a bad storm. When me and my dad were coming back from Kingwood WV in 2010 we ran into a small tornado that was very destructive Look at the sky and watch the animals behavior. The effect of a disaster would be disease and mass destruction.

The weather event that I fear most is either a flood, a hurricane, or tornado. One time when me, my om, and my dad where on the interstate coming f5rom virginia, a really bad storm came and it was raining so hard that we couldn't see the road or anything around us so a lot of other cars as well as ours pulled over to the side of the road and put on our emergency blinking lights to signal other cars. we were stuck there on the interstate in the car for about 2 and a half hours. It was pretty scary.I don't really know how the world can be prepared for a tusnami like the one that occured in 2004 besides announcing it on the radio and news. This kind of diasaster would impact the world greatly and be very awful to the economy and type of world we live in for everyone.

My most fear, Storm wise. would have to be a tornado or a flood. Due to the amount of damage they cost. Almost one million dollars were spent from the last tornado. I have been caught in a major storm before, I think it was last year. It was in North Carolina, But we were far away form the flood. Because we stayed in a beach house at Avon, NC. But the flood was down a really wide highway, so we were good and safe, almost five hundred yards away. They should have some technology in their lab or anywhere, in a watch tower or something, that tells us if there has been an earthquake or there is something to tell that there is a tsunami heading their way, so they have some time to board up wverything or go to hiding.

The weather event that I most fear is probably a hurricane because it's like a flood and a tornado at the same time. I have been in a really bad storm. This summer there was a huge hail storm and I was at the Fairmont Field Club pool at the time. The thunder was the loudest I'd ever heard it and the hail looked like little cotton balls bouncing out of the grass. It was also pouring the rain so we all stayed in the little snack shack building. I think the world could better prepare for a disaster by imagining any possible situation and making sure they are prepared for it.

I most fear a hurricane. They may not come this far inland, but they have brought a lot of rain to these parts and will be in the next couple of days. I also go to Myrtle Beach and they have occasional hurricanes. I have been caught in a bad storm that produced some tornadoes, but not where I was. It was in Arkansas in the summer between my 6th and 7th grade year. We could make sure people are prepared to pack up and leave on a moments notice, and/or be able to find a safe place to go. If it affected the whole world, we would not be able to get supplies from/to other countries, because we'd need them, and we wouldn't be able to communicate.

The weather event that I most fear is blizzards. The reason is because snow can reach up to two feet, and even higher. The ice will then freeze on the roads causing black ice, and people's cars can slide to to another car causing an accident. Yes my family and I have gotten caught in a horrible storm before. We have been caught in a snow storm, because my house is on a hill and we couldn't get up it. The power had went out, and all that I can remember is that it was horrible. This event had happened a couple of years back.

The world can be petter prepared for any kind of diaster by everyone having a safe underground room to go to incase of an emergency. This would be safe so everyone will be out of the storm. This kind of event would make a huge impact on the world by everyone having to start and build new homes that were lost in this tradgic event. Sadly, a lot of jobs would be lost. Nobody should want this to happen anywhere in the world! For example the horrible tsunami that happened in 2004!

The weather event I would most fear would have to be a tornado, because even though it's rare to happen here in West Virginia, they can occur in any state. Yes, when I lived in Georgia we had a tornado come through our neighborhood while everyone was at work and school, so noone got hurt. When the tsunami was going to hit, citizens should have evacuated the area or moved to higher ground. They should have done this when the tsunami was on its way. The effect that a disaster would have on the world would be that people would feel more concerned about having a disaster in their area. They would realize that this event could happen anywhere in the world. They can now make strategies to avoid disaster.

No I do not think I have been caught in any bad storms. The can be better prepared for dangerous events by having plans planned out even if the event can't happen in that area just to be prepared. An event like that causes great effect to the world becuase it ruins and changes peoples lives and sometimes people can even die from those kind of events.

The weather I most fear is tornado because they are really dangerous and can cause a lot of damage! They can get as big a mile or more and can cover a lot of land! I have never got caught in a bad storm and I hope it stays that way but you never know what will happen! A way we can prepare for a storm like the tsunami that happened is you should give all the people in the area a warning a while before that it may happen so they can evadcuate the area and get the things they need to take with them in case it does happen! There are many other ways you can prepare for a storm but that's my example. And a tsunami that happened in 2004 can cause a lot of hard ache for a lot of people! For an example they can lose jobs for along time, people can be killed, lose there houses, belongings, car, and everything else that they have!

My worst storm there is a tornado. I have never been a tornado.
I don't like tornadoes because they are violent. I'm glad I've never been in and probably never will be in a tornado. Some house get destroyed and have to be repaired. It would be scary having to get in the basement and get down. I would be so scared if a tornado ever came. When tornadoes come you have to be low to the ground or in a bathtub incase the tornado tearsthe roof off. When your lower to the ground its harder for the tornado to get you.

The worst weather event that I fear is a flood. I have never been in one but my mom's great uncle was in the flood of 85. There is no prevention of the tsunami, but the only thing that you can do is evacuate the place you are. There would be many homeless people more than there already are and many people would be homeless and hungry that is a bad combination.

Unknown said...

If you were to ask me what weather event I would think is the most frightning weather disaster I would tell you that I think a "volcano eruption" would probably be. Yes I have been caught in a terrible storm and it was in the year 2002 and I was four years old at the the time when I lived in Mississippi there was a tornado at the house right beside mine. One way I think we can prevent disasters like the tsunami in 2004 is living farther away from big body's of water. If a disaster of that magnitude was to happen all over the world I am pretty sure the world would be 99% covered with water.

I fear an earthquake because if your right on top of it you will die from the ceiling or ground caving in. I have been in a thunderstorm coming home from Virginia in 2010. They make sure they have a kit that they can use. Also, they can have an escape plane. Always watch the news about upcoming disaster and know when is going to happen. It would have a bad affect on the economy and on the world in general. Most of all it would affect the people that were hit by the disaster.

Another way to prepare is to have emergency kits everywhere you are. An effect would be the jobs and homes would be lost. Another effect would be that economy would be terrible. Gas and oil prices would go up, along with food prices.

The weather I am afriad of most is tornadoes because, depending on how strong they are, they can rip a house from the ground and carry it off elsewhere. The worst weather I have ever been in would have to be one of those four day power outage snow storms. The simplest way to avoid pulverization by tornado is to relocate all your precious belongings to a cement room with no windows or anything beneath your house and stay there until the tornado has passed. Most people can be affected by a tornado, mostly because only a portion of the world is in mountain areas, and mountains prevent tornadoes.

Out of all the terrible weather events that could happen, I believe that I am most afraid of a tornado. Tornadoes can cause mass destruction to homes, buildings, schools, that may not be able to be replaced or may take a long time to rebuild. Fortunately, I haven't been a part of a tornado and hopefully never will. On the other hand, though, I have been a part of a hurricane. This occurred when I was living in Maryland, I'm pretty sure this year. Our power was completely shut off and trees were spread out everywhere. It was a terrible experience and I hope I, or anyone else has to go through that. Sadly enough, my dad and all my friends, living in Maryland, are actually going through hurricane Sandy now. My friend Ethan was telling me that he has to stay in a hotel because of his loss of power.
To be better prepared for any disaster, I think everyone should have disaster kit with them at all times. Keep clothes, matches, anything that maybe essential to you, in that kit, if a disaster is coming your way. Another thing that you could do is to always keep track of the weather. By dong this, you'll always be aware of any storms or natural disasters that may occur.
A catastrophe with the magnitude of the tsunami in 2004 will definitely effect people in the world. Hopefully, people will become more aware of their surroundings and always be prepared, because anything could happen.

The weather event that I most fear is a tronado. Thankfully I have never been in one. I have been caught in a terrible storm. It was in 2003 and I was stuck in my house for 3 days without power. It was a terrible blizzard. Mom was on travel so she did not know until she came back. I think that the people could have been notified quicker in 2004 on the tsunami about to hit. Something like this has happened before. It was in Japan. Those forces shortened our day by 1 hundredth of a second.

When i was little i got stuck inside my house because of a blizzard. It was so bad that we could not open our door without a pile of snow falling in on us.

I most fear tornados and floods because thet seem to be the most dangerous to me. My family & I were caught in a very bad storm so we had to stay in a hotel for about 2 week. It was in Phillidelphia in 2003 or 4. If we have a tsunami watch everyone would already be evacuating.

I am really afraid of every weather event. I once was caught in a gigantic thunderstorm. Actually I have been in two of them two of them. It was this summer and last year. Last year it caught us when we were at the gas station. Something actually hit our car. The second one was when I was at home this summer, and the power was out for days. We could have a law where house have to be so far away from the beach or something like that. It would show the world anything can happen on any given day.

The weather that I fear most are earthquakes. These can happen anywhere at anytime and you can't hide from them or do anything to stop them.
The most memorible bad storm I have been caught in was this summer while I was as Governor's Schhol for Math and Science. It was held at WVU and we stayed on campus at the dorm's. One evening we went to a chemistry "Magic Show" in another bulding and just minutes after we got inside it started violently pouring the rain, thundering, and lighting. The power in that building flickered on and off, but stayed on for the most part. We were taken downstairs and this weird he-she person came in and he/she was really creepy. They then announced the power at our dorms went back and they were going to see if it came back on while we waited. It did not. They finally took us back and the dorm's were very hot because the AC was out. They told us by the time we woke up the power would be back on. It wasn't. It came on later that day but the heating was broken so we could either turn of the AC and be super hot or turn it off and be super cold. They chose super cold and we had no say in it. We slept under approm. 5 blankets, but the majority of us were still freexing. It was memorible but awful.
We can be better prepared by having diaster kits ready based on what type of bad weather your region normally gets. I diaster of that magnitude would have a great effect on the world for the worse. Many lives would be lost. houses would be washed away, and some of our resources would be destroyed.

I am scared o fgetting into any kind of terrible storm, mainly because I have never been in a terrible storm. The worst storm I have ever been in is that one year it snowed badly and everyone was out of power for a couple days. I was at my house and I was only eight and my brother was two. We could try to get better tequnology to help track down those kind of bad ocean storms. We could also help inform people about it and get better supporting homes that can withstand these kind of storms. The effect it could have on the world is that many people would have homes instead of not having any. It could save many lives.

The weather event that I most fear are tornadoes. Torndaoes can cause horrbile things to happen. They are known to rip houses, schools, and stores apart! I have never been in a tornadoe, and I don't plan too.

I have been caught in a few bad storms. This summer, I traveled to Colorado with my family and we spent the night in Selena, Kansas. When woke up in the morning, the wind was blowing extremely hard, and it was pouring the rain! We waited in the room until the storm passed over.

In order to be better prepared for disasters, I think that we should all a have a disaster kit at all times. We should probably even have an extra kit in your car. A disaster of this magnitude would have a miserable affect on the world. It would causes thousands of deaths, and destruction to the world, such as houses and more!

The storm that I fear most is definitely the hurricane. I fear this one the most because of the constant worry of whether or not it is gonna take down my house or ruin my electricity. I am honestly really terrified of hurricanes. The worst storm I have been in was a blizzard about two years ago and we had such bad, icy, roads we had no school for two whole weeks. Other countries can have higher water barriers, and better access to them. The best thing that anyone can do is just that or do anything else that would protect them from high waters. A disaster like this can wipe out homes and ruin cities. These aren't good things.

The weather event I have always feared is a tornado. I have had been in a tornado warning at my house in ohio when I was about 8 but it was an F1, so it wasn't that bad. One thing the world could do is maybe send a seismic device far out into the ocean to keep an eye out for earthquakes in the ocean. If a disaster similar to the 2004 tsunami ever hapened again, there would be many lives lost, and much sadness. There would most definitely be panic, maybe even some about the upcoming 2012 "end of the world".

I think the weather I most fear would be a flood beccause it is most likely to happen in West Virginia. Another thing I fear would be wind. The derecho we had this past summer was really scary, and it did a lot of destruction. It was really powerful and even ripped part of the roof of my house off. To prepare for dangerous storms people should always have a disaster kit in either their home and their car. Also people should have a plan if a disaster were to happen. That way if they are faced with a natural disaster they will have the supplies they need, and they will know what to do. A disaster can affect everybody even if it doesn't happen in their area. Yes, if the disaster happens near someone they will be most affected because of the damage the weather did. But if an area that is a major producer of something is hit, areas that use the product may be affected by not being able to get the neccessary product they need.

The natural disater I would fear most would definatly be a tsunaimi. I sometimes look the window and can see a giant wave 500 feet high coming over the mountains. Obivously that can;t happen but the thought isstill trouble some. These monster waves just flatten everything. Actualy the most amount of deaths caused by a tsunami is from the inpact of the wae, not, from drowning. It's just scary to think that the last thing you would see would be a wall of blue. These things are sucide stoms they hurtle towrads you just to be broken up on land.

I feel that floods are one of the scariest natural disasters. I feel this way because everything that you know can be gone in an instant. All of your memories and pictures, are going to be destroyed. I've have been caught in a very wet storm. I wouldn't consider it a major storm though. I was in Washington, D.C., just on like a quick tour around the city. I was completely drenched. Rain had gotten in every nook and cranny. I was absoultly miserable, and just wanted to go home. Also, that storm over the summer was big. I wasn't really affected by it, but a vast majority of my family, were affected terribly. The world could be more prepared by getting more knowledge about natural disasters. People should also have a safety and emergency preparedness plan. Cities and states, should have an evacuation plan for every natural disaster. The empact of any natural disaster is hard. We as human beings need to help eachother, and be aware of the weather in our community.

One really bad storm that I was caught in was a thunderstorm on my way to the beach one year. It was terrible, the rain was pouring down so much you couldn't even see the road and it reminded me of a car wash when the giant wave of water washes the suds of your car and the thunder and lightening only made things worse.

People can be better prepared for disasters like the tsunami that occured in 2004 by gathering equipment and preparing for such and event to occur. Also, check the weather each day and learn what signs come before each natural disaster. For Example, before a tsunami, the ocean water will begin to bubble and the tide will push back very, very far from the beach.

This kind of disaster has an effect on everyone in the world, but the place that would be most effected would (of course) be the area that the natural disaster occured.

I personally do not enjoy storms. I would say something like floods, but I have personally have never been in one. I have never taken part in a bad storm, and I never plan to in the future. If developed better tracking systems. We might be able to detect tsunamis. Most tsunami take place right after a earthquake so most people know to evacuate ahead of time. The tsunami that took place caused several issues around the world. People were not able to get supples provided by that country, and the people there were hurt or killed during this event

A disaster like this can effect the world greatly. It also effects many people, physically and mentally. Many families houses are destroyed and also many lives are lost. Some people never can recover rom these disasters. That is why it is very important hat we have special groups to help these people

The weather event I fear the most is an earthquake. Why? Earthquakes come without warning; imagine walking your dog and all of a sudden everything starts to shake and you fall into a giant crevice never to be seen again. Also, the after shocks of earthquakes cause tsunamis! This summer, while at Governor's School for Math and Science, I was caught in the middle of a huge storm. We were a chemistry magic show when suddenly the power flickered on and off; everyone rushed out of the lab to look out the windows. The wind was raging and lightning was in the distance. Rain began to pour down and we were stuck for a while; after it died down a little we ran back to the dorms and slept in the dark. By the way, the dorms were extremely hot because no power equals no AC; eventually they turned the AC on, but it was freezing because the AC was stuck on like some 40 degrees! People can be more prepared by keeping essentials, flashlight, batteries, matches, etc., with them. Also, you should keep track of the weather especially if you live in an area with reoccurring disasters, such as near coast lines or plate tectonics. If an event of this magnitude impacted the whole world then we would be in trouble. Why? There would be no supplies to give or receive and most of the population would be wiped out if there was no warning.

The weather event I would most fear would have to be a hurricane. I have never been caught in any kind of storm in sort unless you count the flood from last summer. Think ahead and prepare before the season the storm hits. You could have a place where all people go after a hurricane or tornado. Also, have some kind of food or a radio. It would have a huge magnitude. If the storm is big enough it could destory many cities which can lead to a poor economy.

I would fear to be in a earthquake the most because it destroys buildings and can cause alot of damage. No , I have not been in a bad storm before and quite frankly I wouldn't want to be. At that magnitude , it could kill many people , destroy important buildings , and many other tragic things could happen because of it.

The weather event that I fear the most would have to bu the tornado. I have never been caught in a really bad storm and I hope that I will never be caught in one. You can be better by having faster evacuation routes ands and better warnings. It would cost lots of money that the government doesn't have to fix it.

The weather i most fear is hail. I fear this the most because if you are caught in a hail storm you might be hurt by it. Also it does damage to your car by cracking the windows. The thing you can do to be more prepared is watch the weather channel frequently.

The weather disaster I personally fear the most would have to be a hurricane. No, I have never been caught in a bad storm, but I wish to; simply because I believe it will be exciting. I believe that the world could be prepared by being very cautious, and taking precautions, and always stock up supplies as far as weather goes. I believe if another horrific hurricane hits the U.S. suh as Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy, the world would be in deep, deep trouble; the U.S. could also spend trillions of dollars in repairs and still not make a dent, and bring this country into even more debt. If a hurricane did hit, it would bring alot of unnecessary violence.

The weather event that I most fear is a flood. I think of anything that could happen in West Virginia, it would be a flood! I have been caught up in a storm last year when I went to the WVU Marshall game when there was a huge thunderstorms. The world can be prepared for any weather event by taking precautions by making a disaster kit and putting all the stuff you would need just in case a major storm would hit due to bad weather.

The weather event that I most fear would have to be a tsunami. Yes I have been caught in a really bad thunderstorm. It was just a few months ago when me and my older brother were walking home from church. I think that the world could be more prepared by having a shelter for better protection rather than tstaying indoors or gettting caught in it outside.
