I am doing my blog on Heavy Metal Suicide, as I was wondering what in the world they could have meant by this. Well, as it turns out, there were a couple of court cases in this area. There was an experiment that did not got to court, in the mid 1960's where the Beatles had played around with running tapes backwards that had led to rumors. One had basically said that the song, "Another One Bites the Dust," recorded by the band Queen, had a secret message in it, that, when the song was played backwards, said, "Start to smoke marijuana." This was, eventually, disproved though, in an infamous 1990 court case. Then one day in 1985, two heavy metal fans from Nevada, Raymond Belknap and James Vance, had decided to devote their day to drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, and listening to a British heavy metal group, Judas Priest. By the end of this same day, the two had gotten their hands on a sawed-off shotgun and the friends entered into a suicide pact. James Vance managed to only sustain serious facial injuries, but subsequently died from surgery complications and a pain-killer overdose. Raymond Belknap committed suicide successfully. Later, a civil action, following the deaths of the two men, was brought against the members of Judas Priest, saying that the song they had recorded, "Better By You, Better Than Me," had a secret message recorded in it. This civil action claimed the message said, "Do it," recorded backwards, and that that had persuaded the two to attempt and to commit suicide. It was eventually ruled though that these messages were merely a coincidence. Afterwards, the band managed to bring to light some humor to the situation, saying that if they were to put a recorded message into their songs, that, "Buy more of our records," would have been more appropriate. So eventually, even though two lives were lost, it still ended up all clearing out. And this instance just proves what I truly believe, that metal and hard rock are too stereotyped by people, especially today, and that it is NOT in any way, shape, or form, "suicide,", "devil,", or, "death" music. It's just different and people these days have become so ignorant that they cannot accept anything that doesn't fit the standard of normal, which in my case, I love different things, or, "not normal," things!

Born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts, John F. Kennedy (known as Jack) was the second of nine children. health problems throughout his childhood and teenage years he would later be diagnosed with a rare endocrine disorder called Addison’s disease.Kennedy won reelection to the House of Representatives in 1948 and 1950.During his first year in office, Kennedy oversaw the launch of the Peace Corps, which would send young volunteers to underdeveloped countries all over the world.Otherwise, he was unable to achieve much of his proposed legislation during his lifetime, including two of his biggest priorities: income tax cuts and a civil rights bill. Kennedy was slow to commit himself to the civil rights cause, but was eventually forced into action, sending federal troops to support the desegregation of the University of Mississippi after riots there left two dead and many others injured. The following summer, Kennedy announced his intention to propose a comprehensive civil rights bill and endorsed the massive March on Washington that took place that August.Kennedy was an enormously popular president, both at home and abroad.Twenty-four-year-old Lee Harvey Oswald, known to have Communist sympathies, was arrested for the killing but was shot and fatally wounded two days later by local nightclub owner Jack Ruby while being led to jail. Almost immediately, alternative theories of Kennedy’s assassination emerged–including conspiracies run by the KGB, the Mafia and the U.S. military-industrial complex, among others

The Beatles were an English rock band, which was formed in 1960. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr were the members. They became widely known as the greatest act of the rock era. From 1960, they started playing clubs and over a three year period, Brian Epstein made them a professional act. They gained popularity in the UK after their first hit “Love Me Do”. By early 1964 they were international stars, leading the British Invasion of the United States. From 1965, the Beatles produced what many critics call their finest material. After their breakup in 1970, each member enjoyed successful musical careers. Lennon was shot and killed in December 1980, and Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001. They are the best-selling band in history, with estimated sales of over 600 million records worldwide. When the song talks about the fire, it is referring to all the good and bad things in life. While the world is turning, new things are coming about each day. Pop stars, movies, presidents, etc. will come and go even after we are all gone.

I’m doing my blog on Rosa Parks. (1913-2005) Parks was a young black lady riding the bus after a long day at work. A white man told her to get up and move to the back of the bus. She simply said ‘’Why should I have to?” Later that day, Parks was arrested but soon after bailed out. The metaphor in ‘’We Didn’t Start the Fire” is Parks did not get rude or disrespectful. The man and the other people on the bus made it a bigger deal than it should have been. Rosa did not want to make this a problem, she just did not think it was right for them to make her sit in the back of the bus. The white people started the fire, not Rosa. They treated her like she started it, but she was just standing up for herself.

One of her signature photos was her standing on a grate that brew her white flowing dress up and she tried to hold it down. That photo actually wasn't staged it just happened. She also was a very well-known singer, which she sang the song "Happy Birthday" to President Kennedy. They believe she had an affair with him. Marilyn Monroe died at the age of 36 on August 5 1962, due to a drug overdose.

In May 19, 1925, Malcolm X was born as Malcolm Little in Omaha, Nebraska. He had a total of seven siblings, taken care of by a busy mother, known as Louise Norton Little, and his father, Earl Little, was a Baptist minister and supporter of Marcus Garvey, the Black Nationalist leader. In 1929, their family's house in Michigan was burned down, and two years after that, Earl Little was found on train tracks killed. Despite the police saying these were accidents, the Littles knew this was the doing of the Black Legion. Soon, Louise had a mental breakdown, sending her children to foster homes. He and his best friend were arrested in 1946 and convicted on burglary charges, and were sentenced 10 years in prison. After his sentence, Malcolm studied Elijah Muhammad, who taught that white society works to keeps African-Americans from empowering them. He eventually became a follower and considered "Little" to be a slave name, having the new surname "X." Not only did he soon become minister, but he also became the national spokesman of the Nation of Islam. By the time he was married, he was told to cover up his affairs and subsequent children. He constantly didn't bring bodyguards with him, leading to his death. On February 14, 1965, Malcolm X's family's house was firebombed, but he didn't receive physical injury. A week later, he spoke at the Manhattan Audubon Ballroom, where three gunmen shot him 15 times. 1500 people attended his funeral at the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Harlem.

I have decided to do my blog on Albert Einstein. I never knew this, but Einstein was born in Germany. Einstein discovered many things. Such as general relativity, special relativity, and the Theory of Brownian Motion. Those were only a few, but I would be here all night if I named all of them. The song really explained a lot of things in a short amount of time. In the song they mentioned a fire. The fire that they were talking about wasn't a real fire. It was a metaphor. The fire is referring to all the bad in the world that was caused. They were explaining in the song that the fire wasn't cause by us. It had already been started and is spreading wider and growing. The bad is only getting worse and soon we are all going to fall. Luckily that hasn't happened yet and hopefully it doesn't soon.

I've decided to do mine on punk rock its a music genre developed between 1974 and 1976. The term "punk" was first used in relation to rock music by some American critics in the early 1970s, mainly used to describe garage bands. An associated punk subculture emerged, expressing youthful rebellion and characterized by distinctive styles of clothing and adornment ranging from deliberately offensive T-shirts, leather jackets, spike bands and other studded or spiked jewelry to bondage and S&M clothes. The first wave of punk rock aimed to be aggressively modern, distancing itself from the bombast and sentimentality of early 1970s rock. I think the reason they used the term "We didn't start the fire" was because they were starting a new generation of music when they started it.

I am writing about Peter Pan. He is a fictional character created by J.M. Barrie and Walt Disney created a movie based off the play. The movie was released February 5th, 1953 in the USA. Peter Pan was the 14th movie in the Walt Disney Animated Classics Series. In 1953 the movie was entered into the Cannes Film Festival. They made a sequel called Return to Neverland in 2002. He lived on island called Neverland, with a group called "the lost boys." His arch enemy is Captain Hook and he was a ship called the Jolly Roger. Five of the things Peter Pan is best known for are his ability to fly with no wings, his semi-immortality, eternal youth, knife-fighting, and impersonations. Bobby Driscoll played the original voice of Peter Pan, but since 1953, many people have made spin-offs of Peter Pan and have used other people, like Robbie Kay, Jared Gilmore, Jeremy Sumpter, Robin Williams and many other people. Also in the original play Peter Pan was usually portrayed as a woman. Some of the people who played the role were Mary Martin, Sandy Duncan, and Cathy Rigby.

This blog is about Joseph Stalin. Born on December 18, 1878 in the small town of Gori, Georgia Joseph Stalin soon became one of the most powerful men to ever rule the Soviet Union. Stalin had a plan to become the most powerful and influential man on Earth. To do this, anyone who got in his way or seemed to be an enemy were either executed or sent to a harsh labor camp. Stalin’s main goal was to turn the Soviet Union from a peasant society to an industrial superpower. He had a five-year plan to do so. Most of the citizens who actually cared about their country did not like Stalin and would refuse to do what he would say. Stalin put this to a stop to this by turning the people against each other and having them spy on one another. He also changed city names, history books and many other aspects of the country to praise him and all he had accomplished. On the day before World War II, Stalin signed a nonaggression pact with the German dictator Adolf Hitler. Stalin lived an action-packed, overruling and cruel life. In his later years he became very paranoid before dying of a stroke. Stalin had died on March 5, 1953, at age 74.

The television was made by Philo Farnsworth and Charles Francis Jenkins. It was made in 1927. The two inventors first demonstrated this device to the press in 1928. Today, the television has gotten extremely popular. Millions of people use the television for entertainment. There are also channels to watch shows on, such as SpongeBob Squarepants on Nickelodeon, or Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel. In addition, there are different ways to watch TV. Some examples are satellite dish and cable. That is the history of the television. I think that Philo Farnsworth and Charles Jenkins have become my new favorite people!

Sputnik 1 was first launched on the 4th of October of 1957, and contact with it was lost on the 26th of October. Its success overall triggered the Space Race. It spent three months in orbit overall until it burned up on January 4th, 1958 upon re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.
The project started when Sergei Korolev confronted Dimitri Ustinov with the idea of building a satellite. The success of this project triggered the NASA to be created. This is when the term "Sputnik crisis" was coined by President Eisenhower. As previously said, it orbited for 3 months and it decayed on January 4th, 1958. The length of its mission was 92 days. That is a brief history of Sputnik.

This week my blog is about Hula Hoops. They began in ancient times. Children in the Greek and Egyptian civilizations made hoops out of grape vines, sticks, and grass. It died down quickly. In 1957, Richard Knerr and Arthur 'Spud' Melin got the idea of reinventing the hoops. On a trip, they saw children in Australia twirling bamboo hoops around their waists in gym class. They couldn't patent it as theirs because it was already in existence. So, they used the name "Hula Hoops". Over 100 million hoops were sold in two years. Billy Joel's song, "We Didn't Start The Fire" is a metaphor. It is referring to changes in the world. The two men did not invent the hula hoop, but they reignited the interest in it.

I have chosen to do my blog on the mafia. The mafia was an American Italian group. They were known for being pretty much a network of crime. They didn't start out as gangsters though. They started boot-legging and got a lot of money doing it too. From doing that they gained the money to buy suits and guns. They also earned the respect from people and were their first option to do their dirty work.
The song “We didn't start the fire” has a metaphor in the song and title. It basically means that all the problems in the world today were not caused by our generation. All the events in history led to what the world is today.

The syringe tide or hypodermics on the shore was a pollution accident. On the beaches of Jersey there was a large amount of sewage. Among the sewage were 77 syringes. The accident caused the coast line to be closed. This deterred tourist from the area. The accident cost more than a million dollars in revenue to be lost. Officials finally traced the source of the waste to the Fresh Kills Landfill in Staten Island. No reparations were paid to the business owners on the Jersey Shore for revenues lost during the months of inactivity.

In June 1926, a baby girl was born at the Los Angles County Hospital. She would become one of the most recognized icons in history. This is a story about Ms. Marilyn Monroe. Her birth name was Norma Jeane Mortenson. Marilyn's famous life definatly seems fabulous, but it always wasn't like that. As a child, Norma was passed to and from family members and orphanages. She was in this position because of her mother's mental health issues. To save her from more orphanages, when she turned 16, a family friend proposed to Marilyn. When he was sent to the Pacific with the Merchant Marines, Norma Jeane began working at a factory. While working at the factory a photographer took a photo of the brunette and she soon became famous; modeling and acting. By 1946 Norma's hair became a platinum blonde and she changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. She inspired musicians, writers and artists. She inspires me. She left us a legacy. Her cause of death was over dosage. I don't care what history says, she left us questioning and that's how it should be.

I am doing my blog on "Psycho." People ony see psycho when they see the famous shower kill. But not many people know the real story. The main character is a girl named Marion Crane. She steals 40,000 dollars from her company then goes into hiding. The killer is like any other killer. Nice at first then bloodthirsty the next. The strange thing is that he tried to kill the main character last. Psycho actually had at least 5 sequels. The origins, the original then the sequels. After over 50 years this movie in horror is still popular today.

I choose to blog about the Lockheed U-2 TR-1 spy plane. The plane's nickname was "Dragon Lady". The first flight was in 1955 and the plane was introduced to the world in 1957. This plane was extremely important because of its capability. It could fly undetected at 70,000 feet which was 5,000 feet higher then any radar at that time in the world. This plane could fly in any weather condition and could communicate at a very long range. The plane was very important in several events that happened in the Cold War involving the Soviet Union, Vietnam, China and Cuba. This plane is still used by our military today. I think that "We didn't start the fire" really refers to a world fight. I don't think that just one person or county can be blamed for starting it but it is going to take everyone to bring a peaceful end to it. I hope that it will happen on day.

Well, I was very confused when you told us to pick a person to write about and what we thought that individual stood for. But instead I did research on what the song stood for. Well here it is, this song was written to tell why our generation is, why it is. From famous boxers, baseball player, presidents, wars and events, even great singers and bands. But the point behind the song is they all set our future. Everything people do in their time will reflect what happens in the future to come. Like when the the women were talking pills to make their kids have no arms or legs or wars the people have started over seas before our generation. People like to always blame the younger generation for being so screwed up. But our generation didn't start the fire, but if we all work together their is a good chance that we can sure put it out instead of keep adding fuel. There is my opionion on the song..

I'm writing my blog on the Starkweather homicide. Charles a Starkweather was born on November 25, 1938 in Lincoln Lancaster County in Nebraska. He was a crazy mass murderer along with his girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate. He was born into a poor family and quit school at the age of 16 to work. One day, he went to a gas station to buy a toy dog for Caril. The gas station attendant Bobby Colvert refused to sell it to him because he was low on cash. He killed the attendant and robbed the station. Weeks later, he killed Caril's parents and sister, Charles lied to her that they'd been kidnapped. After days, he finally confessed to her he killed them. Two days later, Caril's grandmother went to visit. She wouldn't allow her in so the grandma called the police due to suspicion. When the police had arrived, they had already fled to a farm. Starkweather and Fugate continued to murder and steal money from seven different people. The governor sent Nebraska National Guards after the killers. The two realized they were being pursued, they drove away in one of the victim's car. The couple traveled to Washington and stole another car. A Wyoming state trooper recognized them and that was their end. Fugate said she was kidnapped and forced to do murder. She was given life sentence, but was released at age 33 for good deeds. As for Charles, he was electrocuted in prison on June 25, 1959.

In the video, I found many of the images interesting. Some of the events and people mentioned I have knowledge about, while others left me puzzled. The one image that caught my attention was “China under Martial Law in 1989” or as it is more likely known “Tienanmen Square”. I am very interested in the militarization of different countries. I find it interesting how different countries draft laws because of their different belief systems or their own self-interest. Anyhow, at first, I didn’t know what “Martial Law” was but it sounded fascinating so I looked it up. Through further research, I found that Martial Law is a government’s way of using its military to suppress a citizen uprising. Webster’s defines Martial Law as a system of rules that effect when the military takes control of the normal administration of justice. The event mentioned in the song dates back to June 4, 1989. Chinese students and citizen activist had come to the square to mourn the death of Chinese General Hu Yaobang, a pro-reform member of the Communist party who had died in April of that year. Mourners had come to the square to grieve and their griefs lead them to a peaceful protest for a more democratic China. Students enacted a hunger strike. More than a million protesters marched united in the cause. Things became intense after a visit from then Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. The Chinese government was embarrassed that the protest were occurring during Gorbachev’s visit and soon after his departure, they declared Martial Law. Estimates state that over 900 Chinese students and citizen activist were killed by the Chinese military on this day. The military used tanks and guns to kill the protesters under the command of the Chinese government. Untold numbers of protesters were injured and 24 activists remain imprisoned for their participation in the Tienanmen Square protest to this day. Many protesters died holding signs that read “Long Live Democracy” and “Law, not authoritarianism”. The event that took place in Tienanmen Square was building for years. China has a history of many bloody battles in which its regimes commit war crimes against its citizens who try to revolt. Those students in the square didn’t start the fire their ancestors did. That same fire burned inside of them and that same flame will find itself burning again inside their children. The song shows us how history repeats itself.

Born on September 1, 1923, Rocky Marciano is one of the most famous boxers we know today. Before boxing, he had tried to be a catcher for the Chicago Cubs but he couldn't throw the ball from home plate to second base so he was let go. Sadly for him at the time but little did he know he would become one of the greatest boxers of all time. His first 16 matches were all knock outs, one opponent after another and another. After a couple matches later he started to get more recognized by bigger companies and people. He had held the heavyweight boxing title for four years in a row in the 1950's. On October 26, 1951 with 32 knockouts, 37 wins, and still heavyweight champion, he would face one of his toughest opponents... Joe Louis. Many years later after Marciano defended his heavyweight title to many tough boxers, he retired and is the only boxing champion to retire undefeated. They mad many movies about him today that people watch all around the work that show us how great of a phenomenon he was. Also I think the metaphors in the song, " we didn't start the fire" is referring to everything that went on in the mid 1900's that they didn't want to happen. Everything that happened they weren't planning for it to and they also might have not wanted it to.

Due to alot of cocaine powder, the price of crack dropped around 80 percent, so everyone bought it and the cops had to crack down on the distributers. The school they were transferring to was Central High School, which was a white only school. They were not able to get into the building until September 20th, which was 17 days later. This event ultimately led to the desegregation of schools. In the song “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, the “fire” is a metaphor for all the events and famous people in the artist’s, Billy Joel’s, life. He started with the year he was born and mentioned celebrities and events up until the year the song was made. People believed that the generation born around this time caused all this trouble, but Joel wrote that song to prove to people that that was not the case. Joel believed that his generation inherited all of this trouble.

I did my blog on the H bomb. The H bomb was developed because Russia had so much success with nuclear weapons in the Cold War. It was originally called the nuclear fusion bomb. After news got to America uranium and plutonium production sky rocketed. In the early 1950's president Harry S. Truman announced that development and research would continue on atomic weapons. The original design was by Edward Teller. On November 1, 1952 the first H bomb was detonated in the U.S.

Crack is a drug. It is highly addictive. It gets you high. But you are only high for a few minutes. After being high people become mad. They can become sad. Crack can be called electric koolaid.

First of all, I will be doing my blog on sputnik. Sputnik was Earth’s first official satellite. It was a polished metal sphere with four radio antennas, and was 58 centimeters in diameter. The Soviet Union launched it into Earth’s orbit on October 4, 1957. This was a major event in history for technology. This also had a great effect on America during the cold war. This had started the “space race”. I feel like the metaphor was, and was not used for this event. The reason I feel like it was used is because we did not start the so called “space race”, but we did participate in the war. So I feel off and on about this event for those reasons.

The video really appealed to me in many ways. It taught me lots of information that I didn’t know about before I watched this little clip. The one that caught my attention was Joe DiMaggio. The long time baseball star was born on November 25, 1914, in Martinez, California. His born name was Giuseppe Paolo DiMaggio but later changed to Joe. His father wanted him to start fishing like his father but he later on started to follow his older brother, Vince, to the sandlots. He dropped out of high school and stated to play in the minors. After he did astounding with his minor league team, the Seals, he was sold to the New York Yankees for $2500 and five players. He then led the Yankees to nine World Series wins in thirteen years with all of those years playing with the Yankees. “We Didn’t Start The Fire” is a metaphor because it is referring to all the complications in the world.

I was watching the video again, as looking for something to do I came across the story of hypodermic needles on the shore of the Atlantic Coast. While researching I found out in 1987, a bunch of medical equipment and other garbage washed up in Monmouth beach in New Jersey. This epidemic was known as the "Syringe Tide". While closing off the beach, the police went scrambling for the the people who did it. They finally found out that it was Fresh Kills Landfill in Staten Island. The garbage company was paid to dispose of different things ''properly". Instead, they decided to dump a bunch of used medical supplies, such as hypodermic needles into the Atlantic Ocean. This was going on for a while now at that point and the tide brought back the old garbage. The company was fined one million dollars worth of pollution damage.

The song is talking about how the younger generations are always getting blamed for the stuff that goes on. In reality, the "fire" has always been going on. Every generation blames the newest generation of kids for what is going on in the world. The singer is leaving the message that you shouldn't blame his generation for all the bad in the world, as he states —“we didn't start the fire.” He simply says that if anything, his generation tried to clean up some of the mess it inherited—“we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it.”

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"

Has anyone ever heard that before? From your parents? Grandparents?

I can nearly guarantee that you have heard that quote before. If you DON’T remember hearing it, well, refer to said quote. The quote is from George Santayana. George Santayana was a politically conservative, brilliant philosopher and author that is the source of many inspirational quotes. He was born on December 16, 1863, and died on September 26, 1952. A lot of people were sad when he died and mourned that his contribution to society was over.

The “fire” in the song represents the chaos we create and the continued chaos from us trying to stop it. Humans, plain just aren’t perfect. In fact, this whole song was just a metaphor, about all the ups and downs of our society. How is it a metaphor? Well George Santayana sums it up nicely when he says “A string of excited, fugitive, miscellaneous pleasures is not happiness; happiness resides in imaginative reflection and judgment, when the picture of one's life, or of human life, as it truly has been or is, satisfies the will, and is gladly accepted.”

I started off wanting to do "The King and I" but while I was watching the video they said something weird which was "Panmunjom." Then I stopped and was thinking it was some gibberish. Then it turned out it was a place that lie on the defector border between North and South Korea. It states that tourist half to sign a release that says that the Panmunjom is not responsible for any injury or death while you are there. There was a truce that was signed that ended hostilities. However it didn't state that peace was settled in the Panmunjom. Panmunjom may be a dangerous place but it draws thousands and thousands of tourists each year. If your a south Korean you stay in the south. If your a North Korean you stay in the north, and the U.S. soldiers stay in the middle of the place. This is because of the so called Axe Murder incident where two U.S. soldiers were hacked to death by north Korean soldiers as the United States soldiers tried to trim a tree at the DMZ. So there you have it but p.s. I wouldn't visit this place, just saying.

I am going to write my post on Sputnik, which was the first artificial satellite of Earth. Sputnik was built in Russia, back when it was the Soviet Union, and it started the Space Race. The Space Race was an event between the United States and Russia in which both countries attempted showing that they were better by making more and more impressive space feats. Sputnik may not seem like anything too impressive by today's standards, but in October of 1957, this satellite was revolutionary, as it showed that us as humans had access to another frontier. It burned out in January 1958, meaning it was only in orbit for three months. Eventually, it was followed by spacecrafts such as Sputnik 2, which was the second spacecraft launched into orbit, and carried a dog named Laika. It was built in November of 1957, and came back to Earth in April of 1958. Spacecrafts such as these showed us what we were capable of, and eventually, we landed on the moon, and now with ideas of sending spacecrafts to Mars fresh at mind, we are ready to see if we can push further.

In this video I learned that a lot of things happened during 1949-1980’s. I decided to choose Davy Crockett. I have heard his name before but I have no clue what he did that was a major part in our history, so I will start off about when he was born. He was born on August 17, 1786 in Greene County, Tennessee. Davy was introduced to shooting a rifle at age five! That is some father. Anyways, he was forced to go to school, but at he decided to drop out because he was being bullied. He either swore revenge or he would leave. After that he ran away from home, and was wondering for three years, this helped him become an excellent woodsman. That’s how he got his nickname, “King of the Wild Frontier.” Once he was married, twice because his first wife died. He decided to go into the War of 1812. This was the war where England tried to take America back but failed. He was an outstanding frontiersman and a defender of the Alamo, but this is not how he got his name. Davy’s tall tales attracted many journalists to write stories about him. Fun Fact: Davy Crockett was known for shooting a bullet at an axe, and splitting it in half. Talk about good aim. Now I will be talking about what Davy did during the Alamo. Once he arrived to Texas, he brought a handful of volunteers from Tennessee. Good thing he brought them because they were excellent with their rifles. The Mexicans finally attacked on March 6th and within two hours the Alamo was overrun. He died on March 6th, 1836. Kind of freaky how he had died just many years later after the Alamo. Well, it looks I like I learned something today and I hoped you did too.

This week I have decided to do my weekly blog on Marylin Monroe. When people hear this name they typically think "Sex icon" but Marylin was an actress, model and singer. Born on July 1,1926 in L.A. California. Marylin Monroe died August 5,1962. She also stared in 27 movies. Her very first movie came out in 1948 "You Were Meant For me." Chuck Arnold had Marylin love stuck, she played the lady in waiting. i think that the song "We Didn't Start The Fire" is a metaphor saying the world has not changed at all, the wold has just became more mature and people are finally noticing it during our current generation.

My thing from the video is Mr.Sugar Ray Robinson (born Walker Smith Jr.; May 3, 1921 – April 12, 1989) was an American professional boxer. Frequently cited as the greatest boxer of all time, Robinson's performances in the welterweight and middleweight divisions prompted sportswriters to create "pound for pound" rankings, where they compared fighters regardless of weight. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.

I am doing my blog on Disneyland. Walt Disney came up with Disneyland. Disneyland's location is in Anaheim, California. Construction of Disneyland started on July 21, 1954. Walt created five different lands. The five lands were Main Street, USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. Disneyland cost about $17,000,000. Opening day was bad though because of a 15 day heat wave. By 1965, fifty million visitors had come through the gates. The fire in the song is a metaphor for how all these past events shaped our future.

Actress Marilyn Monroe was born as Norma Jeane Mortensen on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. During her all-too-brief life, Marilyn Monroe overcame a difficult childhood to become one of the worlds biggest and most enduring sex symbols. During her career, Monroe's films grossed more than $200 million. She never knew her father, and once thought Clark Gable to be her father. A story repecited often enough for a vision of it to gain some currency. However, there's no evidence that Gable ever met or knew Monroe's mother, Gladys, who developed psychiatric problems and was eventually placed in a mental institution. As an adult Monroe would maintain that one of her earliest memories was of her mother trying to smother her in a crib with a pillow. Monroe had a half-sister, to whom she was not close; they met only a half-dozen times. Growing up, Monroe spent much of her time in a foster care and in an orphanage. In 1937, a family friend and her husband, Grace and Doc Goddard, tool care of Monroe for a few years. The Goddard's were paid $25 weekly by Monroe's mother to raise her. The couple was deeply religious and followed fundamentalist doctrines; among other prohibited activities Monroe was not allowed to go to the movies. But when Doc's job was transferred in 1942 to the East Coast, the couple could not afford to bring Monroe with them. Marilyn Monroe died August 5, 1962, at only 36 years old. Taylor Odell

I am doing my blog on the mafia. I chose this subject because my grandmother’s side of the family has ties to the mafia so I wanted to learn more about it. Most mafia members were from Italy or part Italian. The way you could tell mafia members from everyone else is that they always wear fancy expensive suits. At first to get money they started bootlegging, which means they would sell alcohol illegally. Then they started doing dirty work like robbing banks and mugging people. That is how they got their reputation. The fire in the song is referring to that we didn’t start all of this, history shaped what we do today. We wouldn’t got this far without the help of our ancestors. Everything they did would shape now and the future and the fire will keep burning because of them. Only they started the fire.

In the song "We didn't start the fire," I chose to write about Joe DiMaggio. Joe DiMaggio was a popular baseball player who played for the New York Yankees from 1936-1952. During his career in 1941, he set the major league record for 56 straight games with a base hit (this record still stands today). Also the Yankees won 9 World Series championships while Joe DiMaggio was on the team. DiMaggio's nicknames are "Joltin Joe'' and the "Yankee Clipper". One interesting fact to know about him is he was married to Marilyn Monroe for only 9 months! The fire in the song is showing and telling us about all the headlines around the world from 1949-1989. We weren't the ones who started the fire meaning created the problems, but we have to deal with them. There are always problems from the past and Billy Joel's generation tried to fix it. But we have to deal with it anyway and overcome the obstacles from the past and move forward.

July 17, 1955 was exciting day for not just people who lived in Anaheim, California but many others around the United States! This date marks the opening of Disneyland. Only specially invited people were allowed to enter the park on that special day, it wasn't until the following day when it was open to the public. This amusement park has enlarged and today welcomes more than 14 million visitors a year. There are now Disney Lands located all over places in the U.S. and other places around the globe! In the year of September 2005 the newest Disney Land started up the business in Hong Kong. The original park started out with Main Street, Adventure Land, Frontier Land, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. As you can see, the Disney Land culture has grown tremendously since the 1950's and is still enlarging today! The song "We didn't start the fire" really has meaningful lyrics to it. The song covers over almost 100 headlines over 40 years (1949-1989). It is telling us that we, as citizens, are dealing with problems that we did not create and are not responsible for, and that the problems we are facing come from the past. When it states "we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it" it refers to Billy Joel's generation trying to fix the problems. Lastly, when the lyrics read "when we are gone, it will still burn on" it is simply telling us that nothing we do will have a long-term effect. Hence, the problems will likely continue.

I am doing my blog on Martin Luther King Jr. who was a Baptist minister along as a civil-rights activist. Martin Luther played a major role in ending segregation of African-Americans. He is well known for his speech "I Have a Dream" in 1963 which prompted the Civil Rights Act in 1964 and the Voting Rights Act in 1965. He received a Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He was assassinated on April 4,1968 by a white man named James Earl Ray. Martin Luther is still remembered as one of the most honorable African-American leaders in history.

The song "We Didn't Start the Fire" has a metaphor not just in the title but as well in the song. It is basically saying that our generation didn't create any conflict in the world, it has already existed earlier on in history. Martin Luther was in the video because he tried to end racism which has been going on for many many years. You weren't born racist, it's just something you learn which is what our past taught us.

Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson. She was born Pentecostal but later switched to Judaism in 1956. Though Edward Mortenson is said to be her father on her birth certificate, Charles Stanley Gifford is believed to most likely be her father. Her biological father still remains unclear. She was placed in foster care, by her mother, until she was seven years old. After her mother announced she bought a house, Marilyn moved back in with her. A few months after the move, her mother had a nervous breakdown and Monroe was sent back to foster care. During her 36 years of living, Marilyn Monroe found work as an actress, model, singer, and film producer. She was married to James Daugherty in 1942, at age 16. At the age of 20, Daugherty and Monroe were divorced. She then married Joe DiMaggio in 1954 and they divorced the same year. Arthur Miller married Marilyn in 1956 and divorced one year before she died. To this day Marilyn Monroe is best remembered for her popular films and as an international sex symbol.

We didn’t start the fire in 1956 when the Suez Canal War was nationalized Gamal Abdel Nasser. The crisis ended the political career of Sir Anthony Eden. Although it did give a great advance towards the standing he had in the Arab world. The British and French had control over the canal; which didn’t give them any advantage advantage. The only bad thing there was they weren’t very welcome by the Egyptians. The Middle East was a key point in this, because the canal was seen as vital there. Colonel Nasser took advantage of this situation by founding the ‘Free Officers’ to remove all of the British influence in Egypt. In 1952 attacks on British troops got worse. Over sixty were wounded and thirty were killed. Then Anthony Eden wanted 40’000 troops sent to Egypt. In 1954 an agreement was reached that stated that British troops would leave Egypt within twenty months of the signing of the agreement. Then the signing of this agreement ended the attacks on British troops. In 1956, Colonel Nasser announced to his inner council that he was going to nationalize the Suez Canal on behalf of the Egyptian people; Taking the win in the end.

Although a couple of other people have written about Sputnik, I chose this because it reminded me about the book and movie "October Sky" (Rocket Boys), which is my favorite book and movie. Sputnik was the first artificial satellite, which was launched into space by the Russians. Americans could hear it's sounds over the radio waves and see it orbiting on a clear night. Although people were fascinated by it, there was also a lot of controversy about it. Many people thought the Russians were using Sputnik to spy on other countries. The Americans were also upset that Russia launched a satellite first, which caused the Space Race. The "fire" referenced in the song refers to the controversies surrounding the topic.

James Dean is who I choose to write about. James Byron Dean was born on February 8, 1931. Soon James and his family moved to Santa Monica, California. James, who was very close to his mother, became anti-social when she died of cancer in 1940. In high school, Dean's overall performance was mediocre.
He first enrolled in Santa Monica College but he decided to transfer to UCLA to study drama instead. While at UCLA, he beat out 350 actors to land the role of Malcolm in 'Macbeth' and by January 1951, he’d dropped out of college to pursue a career as an actor.
Dean began his professional acting career with a television ad for Pepsi Cola. Dean then moved to New York to pursue live stage acting.
Dean’s career picked up as he appeared in several TV shows. Positive reviews for his role in 'The Immoralist' paved the way to his film success. On March 8, 1954, Dean headed for Los Angeles to begin shooting 'East of Eden'. He received a posthumous Best Actor in a Leading Role Academy Award nomination for this role, the first posthumous acting nomination in Academy Awards’ history.
'Giant' would be Dean’s last film.Dean also received a posthumous Best Actor Oscar nomination for this film, making him one of four actors to be recognized in this way after death.
James Dean liked to race cars. He had an MG but upgraded to a Porsche 356 Speedster later on. Dean came second in the Palm Springs Road Races of March 1955 after a driver was disqualified; he came in third in May 1955 at Bakersfield and was running fourth at the Santa Monica Road Races later that month, until he retired with engine failure.
After that, Dean changed his car to a Porsche Spyder, which was designed by the Batmobile’s creator. On 30 September, Dean and his mechanic set off from Competition Motors, where they had prepared the Porsche Spyder for a sports car race at Salinas, California. Dean originally intended to trailer the Porsche to the meeting point at Salinas, behind his new Ford station wagon. At the last minute Dean decided he needed more time to familiarize himself with the car and drove in it anyways.
He was driving west on U.S. Highway 466 in California when a 1950 Ford Tudor, driven from the opposite direction, attempted to take a fork in the road and crossed into Dean's lane without seeing him. The two cars hit almost head on.
Dean was taken to Paso Robles War Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 5:59PM. His last known words, uttered right before impact, are said to have been: "That guy's gotta stop... He'll see us."
He was buried in Park Cemetery in Indiana and a memorial to him was built in California in 1977. It is composed of stainless steel and concrete and has been erected around a Tree of Heaven just 400 yards from where Dean crashed. In 2005, the intersection of Highways 41 and 46 was named the James Dean Memorial Junction to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death.

The “fire” in ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’ is indeed a metaphor. It sounds to me like the fire is a domino effect: all the things our world has experienced are one step leading up to the next. This fire is the long chain going on and on and on. New things will come and more scandals will make the headlines, even after a new generation comes to hold society. We can’t stop this fire; we didn’t start it. But even though, we can’t see into the future, we can assume that some things too big to handle will come eventually. When they do, if they don’t help us, we’ll try to stop them. But we can’t fight time and we can’t fight things we don’t understand. So this fire is much bigger than us, too big for just one person to correlate. We’re all in this together and everyone’s cause has an effect, whether we want it to or not. ~Karinna Fazenbaker 6&7

Joseph Stalin was born December 18, 1878 in Gori, Georgia. Joseph Stalin’s name was actually Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili. In any discussion of Stalin you will call him a psychopath. He had no emotions. The most notable story of this is when his son attempted to shot himself. He survived the attempt on his own life. This lead to Stalin declaring, "He can't even shoot straight." Stalin was an atheist, but he had complex relationships with the religious groups of the U.S.S.R. The name Stalin was a nickname that meant “Steel”. Stalin was also responsible for the Warsaw pact. This was also known as the “Iron Curtain”. There are many more things about Stalin that I don’t have time to talk about. One thing I must add is the policy of “MAD” OR Mutual Assured Destruction. While this was not just Stalin alone it was a more or less a global police. To briefly summarize it says that for every nuclear war head lunched at the homeland they will launch a warhead. You can see the flaw of this bad policy. The metaphor fire refers to the continuous nonstop unrest in the world.

I’m doing my blog on punk rock. Punk rock or punk is a music genre. The bands were created fast, hard edged music. I actually like the early punk rock bands than the punk rock bands now. Some of the bands names are The Clash, Television, and Romones. Some of the bands names that are now are Fall Out Boys and My Chemical Romance. Punk bands embraces a DIY ethnic. They have a distinctive style of clothing.

The item I have picked is the H-bomb because very little people know about the h-bomb and when it was used. Then H in h-bomb stands for hydrogen and despite the title"we didn't start the fire" this baby started a lot of fires over in Japan. The h bomb is a very complex machine to understand so I will just tell the basics. Its built like an atomic bomb except its not the atomic weighs more because it has solid material in it and the hydrogen doesn't because hydrogen is a gas. This bomb believe or not was the easiest to make and store for small nations. The metaphor that fire means that whatever was shown in the song where sparks in time.

I’m doing my blog on Rosa Parks. (1913-2005) Parks was a young black lady riding the bus after a long day at work. When Parks got off of work she got on the bus and she sat down. A white asked if she can get up and give her seat to him so he could sit down because he just got on the bus. So then Rosa decided to not give up her seat so the bus driver said will you please get up and move to the back so you can giver him your seat and she said "Why should I have to." So then she got arrested for not giving her seat. Tiona CLay 4/5 period
