How to Identify Ethos, Logos and Pathos by Shmoop
Select either ethos, logos, or pathos to write a paragraph describing why a particular game is the best game. If you are not a gamer, then use a song or a movie. In parenthesis after the paragraph to identify which of the three rhetorical devices that you have attempted to use. Now, write one sentence using each of the other devices. Be sure to identify which is which.

The best game ever is Fifa 16. The game is just really fun and competitive. You've never felt that sweet sense of victory after winning a game before. Completing a task feels just as good also. You can also start tournaments and special skills. You will love playing Fifa 16! (pathos) Fifa 16 is one of the most popular, best selling games on the market. (logos)

One of the greatest video game franchises is the Sims franchise, a life simulation series of which the basic premise is to create a person (a "Sim") and have them live their lives (getting a job and promotions, attending college, building a house, getting married, etc.). "Why is it so amazing?" you may ask. Well, the answer is quite simple, really. The game is so open-ended that each playing experience is unique to the player, and there are so many different ways to play that it's very difficult to not enjoy the gameplay experience one way or another. Maybe the draw to this game is the ability to play God or control the lives of others, or maybe you just want to play out scenarios that would just never happen in your life. Maybe you enjoy a world in which the only hate is the hate created by the player, or you like the storytelling aspect. Maybe it's the aspect of creation; being a virtual architect and constructing grand houses, or designing a wide variety of different Sims. With all these options, chances are the average gamer will find something that appeals to them. In addition, the statistics reflect the popularity of The Sims; the original Sims game is the fifth-best-selling PC game of all time, and the franchise has moved over 200 million copies since the original game was released in 2000 (end Logos). There's also an emotional component; suddenly, you're wishing for this fictional character you created to get that promotion or meet their soulmate, or earn enough to buy that huge mansion down the street. You get sad when this character experiences misfortune and feel happy when they triumph at life. It's a similar feeling you get when you're an author of a story; you feel a bit bad for what you put your character through and feel almost a personal connection to your character (end Pathos). How do I know all this? Why, I've played The Sims for upwards of four years! With all this experience with the game, I can say definitively that The Sims is the best gaming franchise of all (end Ethos).

The best game ever made is obviously Mario. Personally I do not play it, but I have many friends and know an abundant amount of people that find it enjoyable (Ethos). After all, Mario is the most well known game and one of the top gaming franchises of all time (Logos). What makes the game so popular you ask? The game loved by most because of the compelling storyline that grasps your emotions every time Mario finds himself losing a precious life in a sticky situation (Pathos).

The best game franchise is definitely the Legend of Zelda. Spanding a timeline over about twenty years and 18 games is impressive, but every game has different items and power ups along with a whole new story.(ethos) A huge part of the gaming committee can agree with me that this is a classic.(logos) Through out my childhood I played the franchise and loved it, and won't dislike any of the following games to come.(pathos) if anyone is into games with great story this will be the game for those people.

The best game ever is Call of Durt Modern Warfare Two. Lots of people play this game every day (Ethos). I play this game a lot when I am not at school. It is also a fan favorite for many who like the Call of Duty series (Logos). It was the most popular call of duty at the time it came out. It made 550 million after the first five days of it coming out. As of 2017, it has made one billion. If you have never played Call of Duty, you should play this amazing game first (Pathos).
The greatest game of all time is checkers. It requires considerable logic and reasoning. In order to be a great player, you must be able to move your piece based on what your opponent may do. It also requires considerable patients and studying the board. It is a true game of the mind.(logos). I don't like to play with my cousin because he is annoying, and cheats.(ethos). I get mad when I lose.(pathos).
A game that I used to play was Uno. I used to play UNO with my grandmother whenever I was little, Uno is also a (Ethos).If you have played Uno a lot then your basically addicted to it if you play everyday (Logos).Uno is a fun game to play because you can get people out but it's only fun when there's a reason your playing. Even if you play with your sister or brother it's still going to be fun because your going to beat them anyways if they don't know how to play.
One of the greatest games ever made is chess. This game requires great concentration and logic. Chess is played around the world(logos). It even has tournaments. I never have played chess, but the game looks very interesting once you learn how to play(ethos). This is a game that you can play with your grandparents or older siblings. They are sure to love it(pathos)!
There is nothing better that spending time as a family during family game night. We all sit around the table and play cards and laugh and talk while doing it. We feel that it makes us closer as a family. It never matters who wins or loses, all that matters is that we spend quality time together as a family! (Pathos) Sometimes my father tries to count the cards to give himself an advantage.(Logos) You do not need any special devices other than a deck of cards and possibly a pencil and paper. (Ethos)

I love playing video games with friends and family. When I was younger my brother and I played video games all of the time. We loved playing Wii Sports. Every morning I used to get him up and play this game. This is the greatest game because many people play it including my brother and me and we have a great time playing it. In my opinion, one of the best songs ever written is Love Letters to God by Nahko and Medicine for the People. I believe it is the best song ever written because it makes me feel very spiritual and the song has many metaphors to everyday things that connects me to the song. As stated in the song, " Dig, dig a little deeper sometimes it's hard to be my brothers keeper. Love so you let love in..." This line means a lot to me because especially during the last presidential election I tried to not be angry with the people who had different beliefs than me, and it made me rethink my whole idiology of life. The band that wrote this song, has totally changed the person I have turned into, and when you see this band live, especially this song, you see how much the feeling and lyrics of this song affect you. Thus, I believe whole heartedly that this song has helped me escape this thing we call life and made me rethink about who I am. (Pathos)

When I get the chance to play any games, I usually pick up Madden NFL 16. It has single and multi-player modes, allowing my brother and I to play together (Ethos). With this game, you can spend hours with a sibling or parent laughing and strategizing. Just think of all the fun times your family members can have with you if you get this game (Pathos). While Madden does have a quality about it that promotes family fun, the cold, hard facts back it up as a great game, too. It has a fan base of 5-7 million dedicated fans, and the Madden NFL franchise has sold a total of 100 million copies (Logos).

The greatest gaming franchise is the Pokémon franchise. It has been around for over twenty years, so improvements over the already great games have obviously been made. (Legos) The game consists of catching Pokémon to form your team to battle gyms and become the champion. With Pokémon based on everything from axolotls to ice cream, you're bound to find at least six (a full team) you like! You can give them nicknames and in some games they even walk around behind you, giving you the ability to talk to them and see how they are feeling. In recent games, there's a mode you can go into where you can play minigames with your Pokémon and feed them Poképuffs. (Ethos) While I love all games I play, Pokémon has stuck with me for over five years. (Pathos)

Apples to Apples is definitely the best game ever. It is extremely exciting and competitive. It's a good game to play with friends and family because you have to know the other players to win. Farkle is a dice game in which you roll dice and whoever gets the highest number rolls first and gets points for rolling certain numbers, and can bank the score. Out of the abundance of first-person action-shooters that come in mind when thinking of video games, one that sticks out in front of the mob is The Stanley Parable. Developed by David Wreden as a Half-Life mod in 2011, this game got a full release on the PC in 2013. This game takes a new spin on the first person video game genre by having no shooting, platforming, or any type of action. Instead, the game strives for a more narratively-driven experience. In spite of this, there are only two characters in the entire game. These are the silent protagonist, Stanley, and the narrator. In the game, the narrator attempts to control Stanley's life story by commanding him to do what he says. In the first command, there are two doors. The narrator commands Stanley to go to the door on his left. You have the option to go to the door on your right. If you go to the door on his left, conforming to the narrator's every direction, this will cause you to receive the normal, bland ending. If you do not follow the narrator, chaos ensues. And there are several different endings to the game. One of my favorites is the tidius Art Ending, where you press different buttons for several hours until a few words of motivation appear on the screen, you questioning what you do with your life. The game also mocks many common video game tropes. For instance, one ending involved you playing bootleg versions of more mainstream games, and another had you finding a intended glitch or bug in the game, making a statement on the quality of video games. The game attempts to make a statement on if video games are art. It also tackles deeper subjects such as existentialism, death, and the meaning of life. The game packs much fun, and has much depth to it. I recommend it greatly.

One of a game that i like is nba 2k17. It is a very easy way to get it and also easy to play it. It is very simple and basic to play. You have to be competitive and have to be a winner to play it. When you play it you have to pick a good competitive team. It brings a lot of people together so you just have fun with it. Anyone would like this game even if you didn't know what to do or how to play it. But you need to know the controls and shot meter to play the game. The first time i played it i use to loose a lot because i didn't practice playing it. But in conclusion It is a very fun game and all ages would enjoy it.

I think the best movie or should I say movies of all time are the “Fast and the Furious” series. This movie gives every watcher of all ages the adrenaline rush that everyone should have. I especially like this movie because it has the action, thrill, and excitement that certain points my life does not have (Pathos). This series has released seven movies already and is getting ready to release an eighth. Since this series has so many movie I would say it is a big hit (Logos). In this series, there is always a good guy and a bad guy. The gang is looked at as the outcast even sometimes as ghetto, but they usually play the part as the good guy(Ethos).

The game gives the player a higher rank as they decide how to run their school and make decisions through students. As it is played, a sense of care is given as you gain hope that certain characters will go on a date or accomplish the quest they were trying to achieve. My favorite game to play is Grand Theft Auto. I have the cheats down pat. My stepdad gives me a hard time, because I can rattle off a cheat code but act like I struggle when it comes to my school work. My stepdad's nephew and I play it all the time. I don't do any missions on the game, I just enjoy stealing the cars and driving around. (Pathos) it is very addicting to play this game. (Ethos) If I were to finish missions, I would be able to build up my score and gain access to more guns, ammo and cars.

A game that I mostly play is Destiny. I tend to play with my brothers a lot in Destiny(logos). In the game their is a game list called Supremecy(ethos). I would recommend this game to those who are fond with blood and violence games(pathos).
The movie "Mockingjay I" is a good movie because there is a lot of pathos in the movie. The reason why is because the movie is so suspenseful and has a lot of death in it. It shows District 12 being destroyed by a bomb and hundreds of lives dead. Another reason why is when District 8 was under attack by the Capital. Another example is when Gail and Boggs broke in the Capital when there was no one there and attempted to break out the remaining Victors.(pathos). There is ethos in the movie like when Coin said she will be a better present. There is logos in the movie when Katniss was trying to get the other districts to turn against the Capital.
The best game that I have played is Madden 17 because I like to compete with my friends to see who is better. Madden 17 is also my favorite game because I like football and it's a very competitive game. I play Madden a lot with my friends (logos). Madden is such a great game I highly recommend it to anybody that has never played it.(pathos)

One of my favorite games in my opinion would have to be Modern Warfare 3. Most people don't like this particular game, but I like it because of the game modes. The best game mode in my opinion would have to be infected since it is very suspenseful. I play this game with my friends.(logos) I recommend playing this game if you are mature enough to.(pathos). They have Modern Warfare Remastered on the Xbox one if you don't have an Xbox 360.
my favorite game is gmod it had so many capability's for a lot of game modes. (logos) you can play a non aggressive game and be friendly or you can be violent. and all of the game modes are made by the community. it hasa great interaction and very realistic gravity and physics. you can download mods compatible with gmod. you can play hide and seek to a alien mode. in my opinion is the best game ever and i have over 2000 hours in it.

One of the best games (not really popular) is Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. In the game, you play as the main character Ollie or more known as Oliver. (By the way, if you want to play this game, there are major spoilers ahead.) Oliver and his friend Philip made a car, then took it out for a test drive. As it tuned out, the car wasn't fully funtional, and Oliver ended up in a lake, almost drowning. Oliver's mom comes to recuse him, after looking for him, since he snuk out of his house. After rescuing him, his mother ends up dying, then he sent to another world. (Since he is the savior of the world.) He gets to battle monsters, save people, save towns, and feel emotions for other characters in the game. In the end, he stays in the new world he was thrown into.
The best game to play is obviously Spit. This is a very competitive card game, like many others, maybe even yours! I assume your favorite game is also quite fun but is nothing compared to speedy round of Spit. (ethos) The feeling of your heart racing and excitement when you win a game is like no other. All though losing could make you angry or just plain disappointed. (pathos) Although it's not a widely popular game, everyone i know loves the competition and family sized fun it brings.

Because of my busy life I really done have much time to play video games. Although when I do it's NBA2k 17. It is a basketball game that is very easy to play. Marvel movies is the best movie franchise. It is emotionally great and is about to connect to the real world though it still achieves the fantasy. I always love to watch these movies with my family. These movies have characters with human characteristics as love, passion, and sadness. Though they have super human abilities such as flight, telekinesis, and mind warping abilities. These characters give you the ability to connect to them and they also have their super abilities to live up too. This gives a fantasy feel that you can relate too. (Ethos) These movies make one sad and happy through the climatic events. (Ethos) In these movies when a character tragically dies it triggers sadness because of the connections you have with a character. (Pathos) These movies also involve arguing characters that must involve logic. (Logos)
Subway is the best sandwich shop franchise because you can pick what you want how you want it the type you want and ect. If you can see the food you’re like okay yeah they understand i wanna see and i wanna pick, the staff is always very nice there too(Ethos). you gotta know how to make and sandwich and stuff so that’s Logos. Pathos is that maybe your friends work there if even family and people you know.
